Position Summary

The Building Support Staff position provides hands-on support for the maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep of Bethlehem Center facilities and grounds. Under the direction of the Building & Grounds Manager, this role performs semi-skilled and unskilled work to ensure buildings, classrooms, outdoor spaces, and equipment remain safe, functional, and well-maintained for staff, program participants, and community use.

This position is essential to daily operations and supports program readiness, safety, and facility standards.


Key Responsibilities


Facility & Grounds Support

  • Perform routine cleaning, trash removal, and upkeep of buildings and common areas
  • Support general maintenance tasks including minor repairs, painting, and basic carpentry
  • Assist with lawn care, outdoor upkeep, and seasonal maintenance as needed

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform minor plumbing repairs (e.g., fixtures, faucets, toilets)
  • Assist with repair or installation of small appliances, furniture, doors, windows, and fixtures
  • Safely operate hand and small power tools

Operations & Logistics

  • Support setup and breakdown for programs, events, and special activities
  • Assist with inventory control and storage of supplies and materials
  • Transport supplies or equipment as needed

General Support

  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Assist other departments with facility-related needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Schedule & Hours

  • Part-time schedule, hours vary based on facility and program needs
  • May include daytime, evening, or occasional weekend hours
  • Flexibility required for special events or urgent maintenance needs

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance, custodial, or manual labor tasks
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20–40 lbs
  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in building maintenance, custodial work, or related field
  • Familiarity with hand tools and basic power equipment

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Combination of indoor, outdoor, shop, and recreation center environments
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and use of tools
  • Use of protective equipment as required (gloves, eye/ear protection)

  • Position may be grant-funded and contingent upon funding availability
