Zozy · Part-time, ~10 hrs/week · $18-22/hr · Remote / US-only - Start ASAP

Why this role exists

This is an awesome opportunity to join as the FIRST marketing hire, at Zozy, an iOS app that tells shoppers whether something is a good deal before they buy it.

Your role will be mission critical, as the founder and founding engineer realize they aren’t the strongest when it comes to marketing and sales—they prefer to design a beautiful product, write code, and interact with our customers (we call them our Shoppers).

You’d be the "founding" marketing person, and if (and when) Zozy grows into a household brand, you can point to the pivotal impact you had at the ground-zero stage.

Wait, what is Zozy?

Snap a pic, know if it's a good deal.

Zozy is a shopping scanner for new and used items. Snap a pic of almost anything for sale and Zozy identifies it, estimates what it's worth, and gives you a clear verdict on the asking price.

Shoppers use it to do three things:

  • Discover deals. Find items priced below what they're worth. Especially useful at thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets, antique stores, and resale shops.

  • Avoid overpaying. Know whether the asking price is fair before you buy.

  • See if they can get it for less. Compare live listings for exact or similar items elsewhere.

Over time, it also tracks what you buy, saves what you want, and helps you buy smarter through Inventory, Wishlist, and History.

No ads. No affiliate links. No commissions on anything you buy.

We make money through a paid annual subscription, which means we have no reason to ever tell you to buy something you shouldn't.

The team is two people. You’d be the third.

What you'll actually do

  • Go shopping, on the clock, and film it. Thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets, resale shops, discount retailers. Scan items with Zozy, react to the verdict, make it worth watching.

  • Ship 5 TikToks a week. Filmed in batches, edited on your phone. Roughly one store trip and a few editing sessions a week.

  • Be the voice. On camera, or on mic, or both. This is a channel built around a real person: you.

  • Own the calendar. Which stores, which items, which hooks, what's posting Tuesday.

  • Answer comments and DMs daily.

  • Remix to Instagram once TikTok is running steady. This is a nice-to-have after we've nailed the first channel.

  • Bring back what you hear. Comments and DMs are the best product feedback we have.

What you own

  • Your number is monthly TikTok views. That's the metric you control and the one that actually brings people to the app.

  • Cadence: 5 posts a week. Views are what matters. Month one has no view target at all. We'll set one together after 30 days, once we can see what's working.

You'll be great at this if

  • You already make short-form video and you're good at it

  • You like talking to strangers and you don't embarrass easily

  • You're organized enough to run a weekly batch and a calendar with nobody checking on you

  • You raise your hand fast when something is unclear, and you'll push back on us when you disagree

  • You can show your work and explain why you made a call

  • You care about how things look. You'll have opinions about ours, and we want to hear them

  • You use AI to move faster (captions, rough cuts, hook variants), but the ideas are yours. AI for efficiency, never for creativity.

  • You thrift, you flip, you resell, or you have a secondhand side hustle

What’s in it for you

  • Pay: $18-22/hr based on experience, ~10 hours a week, with room to expand as we see traction

  • Where: remote, and you must be based in the United States. Austin or Tampa / St. Pete is a plus for in-person overlap with the founders, not a requirement

  • Hours: yours to set. One weekly sync on Central time, everything else async. We care about outcomes, not optics

  • Growth opportunity: there is a real path to full-time, and an equity conversation with it, once we've proven Shoppers will pay and the business is profitable

  • You keep your work: you're welcome to cross-post anything you make for us to your own account

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

The day I watched Marie Forleo's film separating the important from the urgent, my life changed. Not all remote jobs start fast, but most of them are...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
