Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Prior Authorization Specialist to join a high-volume inbound healthcare team.

This role is more than simply reviewing or processing existing authorizations. You will handle inbound calls from providers and customers while initiating authorization requests from start to finish.

You will need to gather and evaluate information, ask probing questions, identify missing or conflicting details, recognize potential issues, and use good judgment to ensure authorization requests are complete and accurate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle high-volume inbound calls related to new and existing authorizations
  • Initiate authorization requests from start to finish
  • Gather and evaluate information needed to support authorization requests
  • Ask probing questions to identify missing or unclear information
  • Identify potential issues, inconsistencies, or missing documentation
  • Provide accurate information regarding authorizations, eligibility, and provider status
  • Review and process authorization documentation, faxes, and case status updates
  • Navigate multiple systems and computer screens while maintaining accuracy
  • Document all interactions and authorization activity accurately
  • Communicate with providers and customers regarding authorization requirements, appeals, denials, and complex inquiries
  • Work toward first-call resolution whenever possible
  • Protect confidential member and provider information
  • Adapt to changing processes, duties, and performance expectations

What We're Looking For

  • Previous healthcare authorization experience
  • Experience initiating prior authorizations, not just reviewing or verifying them
  • Experience with authorizations for services, imaging, prescriptions, or other healthcare services
  • Strong listening, probing, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to identify missing or conflicting information and determine what is needed to move a request forward
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Comfortable working in a high-volume inbound call environment
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused during complex interactions
  • Comfortable navigating multiple systems and platforms

Remote Requirements

  • Reliable, quiet workspace
  • Must be hardwired to your router
  • Must meet required internet speeds
  • Must be comfortable working on camera during virtual training
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen
