The University of California, Berkeley is a higher education institution supporting a diverse campus community through innovation, learning, and technology services. The Enterprise Architect, AI-Integrated Collaboration Services will define technical strategy, architecture, security, and service roadmaps for enterprise collaboration and productivity platforms, while leading the governance and operationalization of AI-enabled services. The role also provides technical leadership, service improvement, recovery planning, stakeholder consultation, and compliance oversight across Berkeley IT.


Responsibilities

  • Redesigns and rebuilds configurations, supporting infrastructure, and integrations for existing SaaS collaboration platforms in order to enhance security, usability, and functionality
  • Initiates, integrates and deploys large scale SaaS collaboration platforms; designs and builds integrations between campus systems and SaaS platforms, or between SaaS platforms
  • Designs highly complex user systems interfaces, service prototypes and new systems or major enhancements to existing SaaS service offerings to the campus, with a goal to make them as simple as possible to maintain and use
  • Defines technical architecture, security controls, and recovery requirements for enterprise SaaS and AI-enabled services, including validation and recovery testing
  • Performs highly complex feasibility analysis on major projects, for example: multi-platform storage management or reduction, updating integrations to automate account and content lifecycles for all supported products to meet current content retention policies, updating Zoom user sync integrations to allow for the introduction and adoption of new features such as AI, and architecting a new standard for managing building and room information to support Google Calendar and Zoom Room integrations
  • Gathers information and participates in selection of technical purchases with regard to software as a service (SaaS), data processing, storage, and access, and process automation. Establishes service quality metrics and evaluates results
  • Recommends artificial intelligence tool selection, performs tool prototyping, testing, and deployment, including use of generative and agentic capabilities
  • Applies advanced IT architecture concepts to function as the highest-level technical expert to support standard, best practice SaaS deployments across Berkeley IT and serve as a consultant to deployment teams and vendor partners on SaaS deployment considerations
  • Advises management/leadership on selection of technological purchases with regard to communication, collaboration and productivity SaaS services and the integrations between those systems and campus infrastructure
  • Engages with multiple institutions across higher education and with vendors to advocate for Berkeley's (and higher education's) needs in the SaaS collaboration space
  • Consults with key stakeholders and colleagues in relation to AI architecture, unit security, service recovery, and risk remediation and provides guidance to leadership
  • Ensures unit compliance with MSSND, MSSEI, and UC Minimum Security Standards
  • Maintains current knowledge of emerging technologies, SaaS collaboration platforms, security practices, AI-enabled services, and higher education IT trends through continuous professional development and industry engagement
  • Contributes to departmental and campus initiatives and performs other duties as assigned in support of Berkeley IT's strategic objectives

  • • Experience with the integration of complex, diverse, internally and externally developed implementations of business functions to build scalable systems
  • • Working knowledge of University policies, information-security controls, risk management, business continuity, and IT recovery practices for enterprise SaaS services and/or the ability to learn
  • • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (Preferred)
