Service Manager | Nottingham | £42,000–£45,000 | 12 Month FTC

The Opportunity
We are working with our client to recruit an experienced Service Manager to take responsibility for the safe, compliant and effective delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across a large, geographically dispersed estate.
Hybrid role, based in Nottingham, this is a hybrid role covering around 138 sites across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Derbyshire, ranging from satellite locations such as scout huts and village halls through to wider operational facilities. You’ll be responsible for keeping the maintenance service running effectively across the region, working closely with supply chain partners, operational teams and end users to make sure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standard. It’s a role that offers plenty of variety. Alongside overseeing day-to-day maintenance, you’ll be involved in compliance, contractor management, small works, stakeholder relationships, technical decision-making and forward maintenance planning.


The Role
As Service Manager, you’ll provide operational leadership across both planned and reactive maintenance activities, making sure works are properly planned, resourced and delivered in line with statutory requirements, MoD standards and the required Health, Safety and Environmental procedures. You’ll work closely with supply chain partners to ensure suitably qualified and authorised operatives are deployed with the right skills, equipment and documentation for the work being undertaken. The role also has a strong customer and stakeholder focus. You’ll act as a key point of contact for end users, helping to resolve operational issues and complaints, providing technical advice and supporting the identification and development of additional works. There is also a commercial element to the position, with responsibility for managing smaller billable works, producing rough orders of cost and making sure works are delivered efficiently and provide value for money.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across a geographically dispersed estate.
• Coordinate supply chain partners and regional teams to ensure maintenance activities are appropriately planned, resourced and delivered.
• Ensure works are undertaken safely and in accordance with statutory legislation, MoD requirements and Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
• Review Risk Assessments, Method Statements and other relevant documentation to ensure safe systems of work are in place.
• Ensure maintenance activities, supporting documentation and compliance information are accurately recorded through the CAFM system.
• Provide supervision, direction and coaching to teams and supply chain partners, promoting a positive safety and performance culture.
• Act as a key point of contact for end users and stakeholders, supporting the resolution of operational issues and complaints.
• Provide professional and technical advice to support effective estate management.
• Identify and support additional works opportunities, including the preparation of rough orders of cost.
• Manage small billable works from initial scope through to completion, ensuring they are delivered efficiently and commercially.
• Monitor performance, quality, costs and risks across the service, taking action where required to maintain standards.
• Contribute to forward maintenance planning and the wider delivery of a sustainable and profitable contract.
• Support the management of relevant technical compliance responsibilities across the estate.

 

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who understands maintenance from an operational and technical perspective and is comfortable taking ownership across a varied estate.

• Experience managing planned and reactive maintenance services, ideally within an FM, estates, engineering or similar environment.
• Experience coordinating contractors, supply chain partners or technical maintenance teams.
• A good level of technical competence within a building, civil, electrical or mechanical discipline.
• An HNC or equivalent technical experience.
• A management-level Health & Safety qualification such as SMSTS, or equivalent experience/qualification.
• Experience overseeing safe systems of work, including reviewing RAMS and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
• Strong IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office and CAFM systems.
• Good commercial awareness, with experience managing costs, small works or additional works.
• The confidence to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, from technical teams and contractors through to customers and senior internal colleagues.

The role may also involve taking responsibility for additional Authorised Person duties, such as Legionella, Asbestos, Confined Space or Working at Height. You don’t necessarily need to hold every authorisation from day one, as training can be provided where required. Most importantly, you’ll need to be comfortable making decisions, influencing others and maintaining high standards in a regulated, safety-critical environment. You’ll also need the ability to obtain and maintain SC Clearance and be comfortable travelling between the sites covered by the contract.
