About the Role

We are looking for a YouTube Channel Operations Assistant to support the growth and day-to-day management of client Developer YouTube channels.

This is a hands-on role for someone who has actually run YouTube channels and understands that successful YouTube content is about much more than uploading videos. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented, but most importantly, will understand YouTube optimization, audience engagement, thumbnails, headers, and content discoverability. You will work closely with the YouTube Channel Manager and Channel Strategist to optimize video content, improve audience engagement, maintain an organized publishing workflow, and find new ways to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the channels.

Because the content is highly technical, experience working with or optimizing complex technical content is highly valuable. You do not need to be a technical expert, but you should be comfortable working with complicated subject matter and finding ways to make it accessible and compelling to a YouTube audience.

Key Responsibilities

YouTube Channel Management & Optimization

  • Manage day-to-day operations for company Developer YouTube channels.
  • Upload, publish, schedule, organize, and manage video content through YouTube Studio.
  • Optimize videos using titles, descriptions, tags, thumbnails, playlists, metadata, and other YouTube SEO best practices.
  • Review video content and publishing details carefully to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Evaluate existing content and identify opportunities to improve discoverability, click-through, engagement, and overall audience performance.
  • Create, update, and organize YouTube playlists to improve content discovery and the viewer experience.
  • Create, edit, and/or optimize compelling thumbnails and headers designed to encourage viewers to click and watch.
  • Use performance data, audience behavior, and YouTube best practices to make recommendations for improving content.

Content Operations

  • Manage incoming video assets, upload requests, thumbnails, and publishing materials.
  • Organize content and maintain accurate publishing workflows and content calendars.
  • Track multiple videos and requests while ensuring content is published according to deadlines and SLAs.
  • Review all publishing materials for missing information, errors, incorrect links, or other issues before content goes live.
  • Keep video files, assets, thumbnails, and other channel materials organized and easy to access.
  • Support the launch of a new Developer YouTube channel, including channel organization and content setup.
  • Assist with transitioning an existing channel to a brand channel and help maintain consistency throughout the transition.

Audience Engagement

  • Monitor and respond to YouTube community comments as needed.
  • Create and publish YouTube Community Tab posts to support audience engagement and content promotion.
  • Think about content from the audience's perspective and identify ways to make technical topics more compelling and accessible.

Technical Content

  • Work with complex technical and developer-focused content and help optimize it for a broader YouTube audience.
  • Review complicated topics and identify opportunities to make titles, thumbnails, descriptions, and other content elements more accessible and engaging.
  • Be comfortable working with subject matter that may initially be unfamiliar or highly technical.
  • Demonstrate examples of previous work where you helped optimize or make complex content more accessible to an audience.

Workflow & AI

  • Work with the Channel Manager and Channel Strategist to identify ways to make content operations faster, easier, and more efficient.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows around video optimization, content organization, scriptwriting, and content creation.
  • Use AI tools to assist with scriptwriting, video creation, research, and other content workflows.
  • Experiment with AI and other tools to streamline or automate repetitive processes.
  • Stay current on YouTube trends, platform updates, features, and best practices and identify relevant opportunities for the channels.
  • Assist with basic video editing or content adjustments when needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-10 years of hands-on experience running and managing YouTube channels.
  • Must have professional, hands-on YouTube channel management experience.
  • Must have managed YouTube channels as part of professional work, including channel optimization, publishing, thumbnails, metadata, playlists, and audience/viewership growth.
  • Experience managing YouTube content for technical, software, developer, SaaS, or other complex technical content
  • Prior experience managing channels for a company, agency, media company, creator, or brand
  • Demonstrated experience with YouTube optimization and the ability to explain how previous optimization efforts improved content performance or audience engagement.
  • Strong understanding of YouTube SEO, including titles, descriptions, tags, thumbnails, playlists, metadata, and discoverability.
  • Hands-on experience using YouTube Studio to upload, publish, organize, schedule, and manage video content.
  • Must be able to create or optimize compelling thumbnails and headers with an understanding of what encourages viewers to click.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills, with the ability to manage multiple videos, assets, requests, and deadlines independently.
  • Ability to carefully review content and catch errors, missing information, incorrect links, or other issues before publication.
  • Experience managing YouTube playlists and organizing content for the viewer experience.
  • Experience engaging with audiences through YouTube comments and/or Community Tab posts.
  • Basic video editing skills and familiarity with video editing tools.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, prioritize work, figure things out, and meet deadlines without constant follow-up.
  • Curious, proactive, low-ego, and comfortable experimenting with new tools and workflows.
  • Interest and experience using AI tools to support content creation and workflow efficiency.
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop / Adobe Creative Suite for thumbnail creation or optimization.
  • Experience launching, transitioning, or growing YouTube channels.
  • Familiarity with YouTube analytics and using performance data to optimize content.
  • Experience with AI-assisted scriptwriting, video creation, or content workflows.
  • Experience identifying opportunities to automate or streamline content operations.
  • Low-ego and easy to work with, curious, and comfortable working with unfamiliar or complex technical topics
  • Excited by content, audience engagement, and optimization

Additional Information

  • The successful candidate will work closely with the existing YouTube Channel Manager and Channel Strategist to help increase content output while improving optimization, audience engagement, and workflow efficiency.
